9 Afghans Die In Iran Landmine Blasts In 2024, Says Rights Group

The Hengaw Human Rights Organization reported that 57 people were killed or injured by landmine explosions in Iran in 2024, including 17 Afghans.

Of these, nine Afghans died, while eight suffered injuries or lost limbs. On 4 April, marking the International Day for Mine Awareness, Hengaw—based outside Iran—noted that 14 migrants and three Afghan fuel carriers were among the victims.

The group highlighted that 30 percent of Iran’s unexploded ordnance victims were Afghans. Additionally, at least five children and four women were among the victims of the explosions, with three children and one woman identified as Baloch, two children and one woman as Arab, and two women as Kurdish.
