Taliban & Tajikistan Finalise Electricity Purchase Deal for 2024

Mohammad Hanif Hamza, CEO of the Taliban-run Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), and Mohammad Omar Asuzada, head of Tajikistan's National Electricity Company Barqi Tojik, have officially signed an electricity purchase agreement.

This agreement, inked in Turkey, outlines that the Taliban will procure electricity from Tajikistan in 2024.
The meeting between the two sides also served as a platform to discuss the potential extension of a new 500-KV electricity transmission line from Tajikistan to Afghanistan. DABS, in a recent announcement, confirmed that Tajikistan has shown a keen interest in this extension of the 500-KV power line.
Furthermore, DABS has requested Tajikistan's cooperation in reviving and executing the CASA-1000 project, a crucial electricity transmission venture that would channel power from Tajikistan through Afghanistan to Iran.
Tajikistan has expressed its willingness to continue collaborating on this project.
Originally slated for completion in 2016, the CASA-1000 project has been delayed due to ongoing political and security challenges in Afghanistan.
